Build My Rank: Is the Hype Justified?

by Steve on December 20, 2011

Are you an SEO-nut wondering whether you should use Build My Rank to help your sites rank highly in the search engines?

Before you sign up, be sure to read this article as I blast away many of the myths surrounding Build My Rank and show you whether or not it actually works.

My Real-Life Build My Rank Case Study

At this point I’m assuming you know the basics of Build My Rank and how it can help you skyrocket your SERPs in the major search engines. If you don’t, then you should at least know that it’s a massive (as in thousands of sites) network consisting of blogs, each with a unique domain and hosted on a unique ip address. They will post your original, quality content as long as it’s grammatically correct and makes sense.

You may have also heard a buzz in the internet marketing community about how Build My Rank is now used by some of the world’s most respected SEO gurus. That’s all well and good, but it doesn’t answer the question you’re here for: does Build My Rank actually work?

First, let me show you just one of my review sites that is now sitting pretty at the #1 spot thanks to Build My Rank:

Build My Rank

As you can see, this keyword is no slouch. I don't think I could get to #1 without Build My Rank.

So in a word, yes it most definitely works! Take it from someone who has used many, many similar services, including Linvana and SEO LinkVine. Build My Rank truly blows them out of the water. Of course, you need to diversify your link building if you expect to see results like I did. However, I typically only use a handful of other link building methods besides Build My Rank because I don't need much else!

Pros of Build My Rank

For those of you that like to dig deep into a system and want to know WHY something works, then you'll be happy to see I've listed a few of the chief highlights that you can expect if you decide to give Build My Rank a shot for your own websites.

  • Authority, aged websites
  • Easy to use interface
  • Ability to outsource content creation
  • Choose anchor text based on your target keywords
  • Strict control over quality of content in network
  • Full, transparent reporting
  • Ability to control link velocity (important for new sites!)
  • Competitive pricing

BMR VS. Other Link Building Services

There's no doubt that Build My Rank isn't the only SEO program ready to trade your dollars for a high rank in the major search engines. So how does it compare to it's rivals? In general, Build My Rank has the exact same features (if not better) at a much lower price. Also, case studies from myself and other internet marketers have shown that Build My Rank tends to outperform similar services. That's not to say you won't see benefits from Linkvana or My Article Ranks; it's just that you'll likely get the best ROI from using Build My Rank.

Inside Build My Rank

How does the actual service work once you sign up and give it a go for yourself? The best way to see is to sign up for the free trial they offer, which gives you 10-free backlinks. I can tell you the ins and outs of the system but only you can determine whether you and BMR are the right fit for one another (kind of like an SEO dating service!).

Build My Rank Cons

Although Build My Rank is one of the most powerful weapons in my personal SEO arsenal, it's by no means perfect. Before you decide to buy, keep these Build My Rank cons in mind. First, you should understand that while the monthly cost of the program is minimal (approximately $60 for 5 domains), you need to spend significant more than that to get the most benefit from it. That's because you need to produce large amounts of content to get your backlinks. Specifically, you need 150-word posts that actually make sense (no spun or badly rewritten stuff will get accepted). While you do these yourself, they do take a lot of effort and are quite dull to write. You can also outsource these on the cheap at places like ODesk. Build My Rank does have their own outsourced writing team but they're pricey at $2.50 per post.

The only other not so great thing about Build My Rank is that your posts aren't put on sites related to your niche. So if you have site about gold coins, your articles will appear alongside articles about online dating and discount coupons.

Build My Rank: The Final World

Anyone serious about SEO needs Build My Rank. When it comes to results, there's no other system that even comes close. Considering the fact that they have a free trial, giving Build My Rank a try for your website is an absolute no-brainer.

If you’re looking for an in-depth and honest Build My Rank review, then you’re in for a real treat because I’m going to take you behind the scenes of a real-life Build My Rank account to show you how it works. I’m also going to show you whether or not Build My Rank is worth your money.

How Build My Rank Works

I think it’s helpful to understand the fundamentals of this program before delving into the Build My Rank review itself. In reality, Build My Rank isn’t a new concept. Like other link building services, such as Linvana and SEO Link Vine, blog networks have provided webmasters with a way to post content and backlinks to their websites for years. Because these backlinks come from aged, high PR domains and are found within unique and relevant content, they pass along significantly more weight than other spammy forms of backlinks, including blog comments and profile links. But as you’ll soon see for yourself in my personal and honest Build My Rank review, this particular program has a number of features that makes it more effective than similar blog networks.

Here is an example of Build My Rank in action “under the hood”:

What Makes Build My Rank Better?

Let’s get to the nitty gritty of what exactly makes Build My Rank the obvious choice for any serious internet marketer:

Network Strength: A blog network is only as strong as the websites it includes. A network full of spammed to death, low PR sites isn’t going to do much for your rank in the search engines. What’s crucial from an SEO perspective is that the blog network you work with is chock-full of what are considered “authority sites”. Although the precise definition of an authority site differs greatly between those in the SEO community, most agree that sites that have been around a while and have a track record of producing quality content pass along the most trust and authority.

As you can see in this screenshot below (which shows the PR distribution of the sites your links appear on), it’s hard to beat Build My Rank in terms of authority sites within its network:

Build My Rank Review

The PR distribution varies, but you get a nice mixture of PR2, PR3-4 and even a PR6 site linking back to your site.

Transparency: One thing that used to frustrate me about blog networks was that they would never show you where your backlinks ended up. They’d say: “Just check using site explorer or SEO Spyglass.” But for those of us using a number of different backlink strategies, it was impossible to pinpoint which service was providing which links. This isn’t an issue with Build My Rank because it shows you exactly which site (even which page) your post appeared on. That way you can check for yourself that the site has a high PR and even build links to those pages if you’re the type that likes to build link pyramids.

Human Editing: Most other blog networks accept any piece of content that gets submitted to them — even if that content is spun and makes no sense whatsoever. Because Build My Rank is here for the long haul, they screen every post before it gets added to their network. Make no mistake, this is a huge expense on their part, but it pays off dividends as 100% of their sites post unique, quality content. For those of us low on cash, however, I’ll note later in this Build My Rank review that creating large amounts of these posts can get costly.

Automation/Scheduling: If you’re like most internet marketers, time is your most precious commodity. Unfortunately, one of the most crucial tasks for any marketer — SEO — is also one of the most time consuming tasks on our to-do list. One of the things I want to point out in this Build My Rank review is that you can literally automate SEO using their tools. No, this isn’t one of those “push-button” link building pieces of software that stop working a week after you buy it.  Instead, Build My Rank allows you to schedule posts literally months and years in advance, allowing you to build links while you sleep, eat or take a shower! As a busy guy myself, I wanted to really emphasize that Build My Rank is one of the least time consuming blog networks out there.

Fast Indexing: Nothing’s worse than taking the time to find, create and post one of your backlinks and then wait for weeks for it to get indexed. This isn’t a problem with Build My Rank because they use fancy techniques such as RSS feeds and social sharing to get your links indexed in a giffy. They even automatically check if your post has been indexed and take appropriate measures to get it indexed if it isn’t already (an awesome feature that zero of their competitors have).

Cost: A quick look at the other link building services out there will make you want to get a second job! They’re so darn expensive that it may be impossible to make any money from them. Build My Rank on the other hand has a low-introductory price that makes it simple to make your money back (and then some!).

Build My Rank Downsides

Although Build My Rank is an awesome service, I should share in my Build My Rank review that the system does have a few downsides.

First, Build My Rank requires a lot of posts to be effective. The exact number varies on the site, but expect to drop at least 25-50 posts before seeing any results. You can do these yourself, of course, but you’d probably be better off outsourcing them. Build My Rank offers their own service, but at $2.50 per post, you’re probably better off hiring someone on Odesk to do it.

The other thing that isn’t so wonderful about Build My Rank is that the sites in their network post 5-6 posts per day. This is mostly due to the fact that Build My Rank has exploded in popularity and their still working to build back their network. The reason this is a problem is that the PR from these sites “leak” to others, potentially diluting their effect.

Build My Rank Review: The Bottom Line

If you’re unsure of whether or not Build My Rank is for you, I say at least give their free trial a spin. That way you can try out their features and even get 10 free backlinks in the process. Like many internet marketers involved with SEO, I have to say that Build My Rank is a must for your business.
